Decorating on a budget~

There are tons of ways to decorate your house, especially if you make the decor yourself! Crafting can cost a lot, but if your smart to browse your local dollar stores, thrift stores or even your local craft store for awesome reasonable finds, it's a win win! I'm a big fan of browsing all of them, for hidden treasures!
Recently I found brown coffee filters and I have never ever seen them there before. I instantly leaped for joy & of coursed  bought 1 pack for a $1.00! I was browsing Hidden cupcakes blog,  on a side note... I totally am in love with her blog! She comes up with the cutest DIY projects! If you haven't seen her blog, go follow it! As I was reading her latest post, I was inspired to make some, cute coffee filter wall flowers, with my recent awesome dollar store purchase! Here is what I made!

My brother gave it to me, after my Dad passed away. Very special to me=)
Did you see my recent post on to make this lovely plate?! Cost less than $3.00 to make!
You can always recover any of you lamp shades, by browsing the clearance rack at Joann's! I found this scrap of fabric and got a yard of it for only $3.00! This lace fabric was too pretty, to resist right?!
To add a cute touch to it, add some cutout birds from an old book to inside!
Super cute & super shabby chic!
This canvas was actually very damaged & I saved it by re-painting it! You would never know how bad it looked before! Sadly I forgot to take a before picture! All you need is some branches from your back yard & some paper flowers! Very easy craft to make & hardly cost $$ anything!
Make your own throw pillows! I made these out of a damage fabric laundry hamper! I wasn't able to repair the hamper, so I held onto the fabric!  Yes, my name is Sarah & I craft hoarder!  It kills me to throw away just about anything, when I know it can be turned into something lovely! It's a great way to re-use & recycle!

Make your own signs, with this awesome method, that I have fallen in love with! http://www.cometogetherkids.com/2011/05/how-to-do-custom-lettering-without.html
Plaque I found at A.C.Moore for under $2.00, another super easy, no fail craft!

I hope my post encourages you, that you can decorate
on a budget & feel good about not spending a lot!
Don't forget to leave some comment <3

DIY: Dollar Store Wall Decor Plate!

I've been hunting around for tutorials for using sharpies on mugs & plates, everyone I found, has failed  me.  However I messed around and figure out how to make mine work without coming off in the dishwasher! I do suggest to hand wash them, just to keep the plate or mug from fading.

All you will need is :
*KItchen Plate: from your local dollar store or mug if you like.
*Black Sharpie
*Black Charcoal Transfer Paper
*Pencil

Pick whatever quote you would like & print it out in the size font you want on the plate. Line it up and center it correctly. Then slowly transfer your image. It helps to tape it in place, so you don't have to worry about the paper sliding.

Once you have your quote successfully transfer, go over it with your sharpie pen. Put the plate aside for 24 hrs. Once Your 24 hours have passed,  bake it the oven at *150 for 30 mins.

I made mine for my kitchen and just have to hang it up! Have you made anything like this? If so comment below! I would love to hear about it!

DIY Chalkboard Table~

Here's another DIY project idea for you, with using a TV dinner tray table! We had one lying around that use to be my Dad's and I turned it into a chalkboard table! The greatest activity for a toddler, let me tell you and my 3 year old loves it! At the moment my Walmart has them for sale for $8.99, not a bad price, if you want head out to pick up one!

Here is what I did~

I picked up some chalkboard paint and did 2 coats on the top!  I let them cure for 3 days before I condition the top with chalk!  *Before* you officially use it, it is important that you condition it with chalk by rubbing chalk all over it. After I did that, of course I was itching to paint the bottom & of course distressing it!  Here's how mine turned out! If you love it, leave a comment below!

Have a great Tuesday!

A Little of this & that...

I have been in a full DIY mood lately between making: paper brown bag flowers, twin flower garland, twin tea cup holder, re-finishing some furniture and of of course trying out a recipe; fresh peach cobbler.

To make some of the  paper brown bag flowers, just go here to where I have my tutorial posted :http://memoriesinthemakingnbaking.blogspot.com/2012/04/blog-post_17.html

To make the twin garland, I followed this tutorial: http://www.thebugbytes.com/2012/02/twine-flowers.html

To make the twine tea candle holder I followed some tutorial on pinterest, but sadly I can't find the tutorial I used!

Now for the peach cobbler: http://www.browneyedbaker.com/2011/07/14/peach-cobbler-recipe/ The recipe called for cake flour, which I didn't have so I added some graham cracker crumbs instead it was really yummy!!

I have also adventured out a little more  with my craft business! At the moment I have some items available for purchase on my etsy store: http://www.etsy.com/shop/RaindropsOnRosesB Currently at the moment, I am taking orders for custom wood plaques! I am selling mine for $22.00 including shipping. Though price might be going up in a few weeks so order yours now! I'm going to be launching a better way of customizing these lovely plaques via etsy! So please be on the look out!

Have a lovely Monday!

Shabby Chic Picture Frame Tutorial!

Shabby Chic Picture Frame

Supplies needed:

*Any size picture frame: I got my frame, from my local dollar store!
*Black acrylic paint
*White acrylic paint
*Paint brush
*Sand paper
Since the frame had some gold embellishment, I painted over just that part with black acrylic paint.
Follow by, painting the whole frame with white acrylic paint.
Now, don't stress yourself on painting the white perfect, the paint job doesn't have to be perfect, since your going to be scuffing it up!
Just take your sand paper and start scuffing it all over until it meets your shabby chic standards!
 Closer view!
It's a great afternoon craft & hardly cost anything!
Hope you enjoyed my tutorial!
Happy Wednesday!
